What is the Harvard-MIT Mathematics Tournament
HMMT is one of the leading mathematics tournaments for high school students, bringing together talented problem solvers for challenging individual and team-based events.
What Is HMMT?
The Harvard-MIT Mathematics Tournament (HMMT) is a mathematics competition designed for high school students who enjoy challenging mathematical problems. The tournament is organized by students from Harvard, MIT, and surrounding schools and attracts participants with a strong interest in mathematics.
HMMT challenges students through a combination of individual and team competitions. Rather than focusing only on routine mathematical techniques, its problems encourage participants to recognize patterns, develop creative approaches, and apply mathematical ideas in unfamiliar situations.
Depending on the tournament, students may participate in subject-focused individual tests as well as collaborative events such as the Team Round and Guts Round. This variety allows students to demonstrate both independent problem-solving ability and teamwork.

HMMT Registration Dates
HMMT offers two major tournaments during the season. Students and teams must submit a separate application for each tournament they wish to attend. Review the application deadlines and confirmation dates carefully.

Important: HMMT uses an application and lottery system because tournament space is limited. Students and teams must submit an application before the registration deadline. Accepted participants must then confirm their attendance by the applicable confirmation deadline.
