What Is USAMTS?
The USA Mathematical Talent Search (USAMTS) is an advanced mathematics competition that emphasizes mathematical exploration, problem solving, and written solutions. Unlike traditional timed contests, USAMTS gives students an extended period to work on challenging problems and develop their ideas.
Students are expected to do more than find an answer. They must explain their reasoning and provide mathematical arguments that clearly demonstrate why their solutions work. This makes proof-writing and mathematical communication an important part of the competition.
USAMTS is particularly valuable for students interested in olympiad mathematics because it encourages persistence, creativity, experimentation, and the development of rigorous mathematical thinking.

USAMTS Registration Dates
USAMTS registration is available online for eligible students. The competition consists of multiple rounds throughout the school year, with students receiving extended time to solve and submit their solutions.
USAMTS 2026–2027
Register & Participate
Important: USAMTS does not follow a traditional single-day competition format. Each round gives students at least a month to solve the problems and write their solutions. Students may also participate in later rounds even if they did not participate in Round 1. Always check the official USAMTS website for the latest problem release and submission deadlines.
